Invite: See Me Anti-Stigma Session

See Me Anti-Stigma Session: Launch of the Creative Approaches Report
Thursday 30 October, 10 – 11:30am (Online)

See Me and the Mental Health Foundation will host their fourth anti-stigma session at the end of this month with the online launch of their new Creative Approaches report.

Taking place on Thursday 30 October, the session will explore key learnings from a range of creative projects led, commissioned and supported by See Me over the past few years.

The report highlights how participatory creative methods have become a central part of See Me’s approach to addressing intersectional stigma. Contributors from partner organisations, including The ALLIANCE and Simon Community Scotland, will share their insights on why creative approaches are particularly powerful tools for exploring lived experiences of inequality and oppression.

The session is open to all and will be of particular interest to those working in participatory creative practice, organisations developing or supporting creative projects, and funders or commissioners seeking to understand their impact.

In this 2.5 hour workshop Creative Glasgow member, David McDiarmid, will guide you through the enjoyable process of Jesmonite casting, teaching you how to create a beautiful set of 4x Christmas Bauble decorations for you to take home.

You will be using Jesmonite AC100, a versatile water-based eco-resin that is a solvent-free, safe, and easy to use alternative to traditional resins, plaster, and concrete.

In this hands-on activity, David will demonstrate techniques and provide support as you learn:

  • How to mix and cast with Jesmonite using easy to source silicone moulds

  • How to pigment Jesmonite with your own choice of colours

  • How to cast 4x different finishes for your Christmas Bauble set – 1x plain colour, 1x marble effect, 1x inlay and 1x splatter effect

  • How to wet sand and finish your pieces

  • How to seal your pieces for longevity at home with your own seal-at-home kit to take away

This workshop is aimed at beginners so no previous experience working with Jesmonite is necessary. All materials and equipment needed for the activity is provided.

DATE: Sunday 30th November

TIMES: 10am – 12.30pm or 2pm – 4:30pm
