Creative Lives

Creative Lives is a registered charity that was established in 1991. They champion community and volunteer-led creative activity, and work to improve opportunities for everyone to be creative. In particular, they celebrate and promote people expressing themselves creatively with others, recognising the benefits this can bring.

Creative Lives work with community groups, organisations, local authorities, policy-makers, funders, and creative individuals as a voice for positive change, to improve and expand the landscape in which creative participation can take place. They work to address inequalities in access to creative participation, promote inclusivity, connect people and communities, and seek to increase awareness of the links between creativity and wellbeing.

Their website has a wealth of resources including a wide variety of guides, briefings, and toolkits, designed to provide essential guidance and creative ideas.

A round up of resources for mental health and wellbeing

Compiled by Halina Rifai, Sonic Hug Podcast Producer.

Creative work demands deep emotional investment and constant self-exposure, yet discussions around the toll this takes remain too often in the shadows. From the mounting pressures of social media presence to financial instability, from project deadline anxiety to the weight of cultural representation – these stressors can feel isolating when faced alone. //The creative landscape of Glasgow thrives on its diversity, and support for wellbeing must reflect this. Meeting basic needs – having enough money to live, a safe space to work, and time to rest – forms the foundation of creative wellbeing. Beyond these essentials, mental health resources need to recognise different needs and access points – whether that’s crisis support, ongoing professional help, peer connection, or daily coping tools. Each person’s journey with mental health is unique, especially within creative practice. // Remember: struggling isn’t a prerequisite for making meaningful work. Wellbeing matters, not just for the sake of creativity, but for each person as a human being first.
