Background
At the moment Transport Scotland are consulting on the future of the M8 Woodside Viaducts and have only given local people 5 weeks (with only two in-person consultations) to make a decision on whether they should Repair, Replace or Remove the viaducts.
Today, Lateral North is launching Reconnect Glasgow to ask Transport Scotland to rethink its approach and meaningfully engage with local people, communities, businesses and organisations.
Through conversations with local people, businesses and organisations it has become apparent that there is a lack of options, information and time to fully comprehend or discuss what is effectively a +£150m project that will affect the lives of locals (and the rest of Glasgow and beyond) for the next 3-5 years. The consultation closes on 25th March 2026, leaving only two weeks to respond.
Lateral North is keen to offer a collective creative response from Glaswegians and they need your help!
Our Collective Creative Response
Reconnect Glasgow asks local people, young people, communities and Glaswegians to develop a collective creative voice in response to this opportunity.
Lateral North requests that Transport Scotland return to the drawing board and provide a more meaningful and collaborative engagement programme.
Lateral North is asking people throughout Glasgow to respond to ‘design briefs’ that reimagine what the land at the M8 Woodside Viaducts could be. Please visit www.lateralnorth.com/reconnect for more information and see the following documents for how to submit ideas.
