Member Spotlight: SMHAF

We were delighted to welcome Rob Dickie, Arts & Festival Officer for the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) to our recent member meet. He shared the details of multiple opportunities for artists and creatives to get involved over the next few months.

Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival 2025

The Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival (SMHAF) will take place from 20 October to 9 November 2025, exploring the theme of ‘Comfort & Disturb’. There are currently several opportunities for artists, organisations, and volunteers to get involved with the festival.

Volunteer Collective:  SMHAF are looking for ten people to join their new volunteer collective — a year-round volunteer group that will help us tell powerful stories, support events, and explore mental health through creative content.

New Producers: Applications are open for Film Hub Scotland’s New Producers programme! Apply for placements with SMHAF, Macrobert Arts Centre, Scottish Documentary Institute, and North East Arts Touring (NEAT).

Mental Health Arts Network: The Mental Health Arts Network is a year-round initiative to bring together a community of artists interested in making creative work about mental health.

Writing Competition: Enter their writing competition with new fiction, poetry, and creative non-fiction inspired by mental health and our theme of ‘Comfort & Disturb’.

Event Submissions:  Their open event submission process allows organisations to host events as part of the festival programme. Events can include exhibitions, creative workshops, performances, live music, film screenings, discussion events, and much more – anything that uses the arts or creativity to engage people in mental health.

Glasgow Steering Group:  SMHAF want to create a regular space for festival participants in the city to come together regularly to spark collaboration and develop opportunities in the arts and mental health, and encourage local people from diverse backgrounds and across all areas of the city to engage with the festival. How do we process your information?

Creative Glasgow are the ‘data controller’ for the purposes of this Privacy Notice. We determine the means and/or purposes of the data processing we perform.

We may, from time to time, share information in specific situations with third parties. This includes vendors, consultants and third-party service providers who perform services for us on our behalf and require access to such information to do that work. Contracts will be in place to safeguard your personal information. We may also use cookies and other tracking technologies to collect and store your information, this includes allowing third parties to access this data for the purposes of online analytics (such as Google Analytics).

How do we keep your information safe?

We only keep your personal information for as long as it is necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Notice, unless a longer retention period is required by law (for example for accounting, reporting or other legal requirements). We have adequate organisational and technical processes and procedures in place to protect your personal information. However, no electronic transmission over the internet or information storage technology can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, so we cannot promise or guarantee that hackers, cybercriminals, or other unauthorised third parties will not be able to defeat our security and improperly collect, access, steal, or modify your information. What are your rights?
